2012:  Pete Rock is in foster care with Jim Kennedy.

12/21/11

Pete Rock is a male pit bull/hound mix - about 4 years old - white with red and brown brindle.  He is named after a wonderfully sweet pit bull that died of old age early in 2011.  We are hoping that name brings him good look in finding a loving home of his own like the original Pete Rock had.

He was picked up as a stray by animal control.  He was found emaciated, dehydrated, and his shoulders were covered with infected wounds.  He weighed only 39 pounds.  The vet believes his wounds came from a harness that grew into his shoulders, or from doing what he had to do to dig out from under a wire lot or kennel to keep from starving to death.

Almost Home took him in and he is in foster care.  At his first vet visit we discovered that he has heartworms.  Tiger Fuel Company in Lovingston has kindly donated money, that paired with our matching funds for December, will pay for his heartworm treatment.

As of December 15, he now weighs 55 pounds.  Another 10 pounds and he should be at his optimum weight.  He is a great dog with a kind soul.  He loves affection and is always so happy to see anybody that comes along.

I have included after pictures and one before picture.  What a difference!  If you are looking for a dog that will give you his heart, please consider Pete Rock.

NOTE FROM HIS FOSTER 12/23/11:  After Astrid one of our talented photographers took his pictures today, I took him to Tiger Fuel in Lovingston because they paid for his heartworm treatment.

He was a big hit - very social and just soaked up all the attention they gave him.  He was very well behaved inside.  They had a bunch of party food and some people were sharing it with him.  He likes to jump up on you and hug you............I'm trying to work on that, but honestly don't mind his hugs!!!

My 8 year old nephew, Jackson, was at Tiger and Pete was very well behaved with him.  Jackson was feeding him potato chips.  I had him on a leash the whole time and he was very well behaved.

I have not had him around cats.  He gets along very well with other dogs on leash, but I have not had an opportunity to try him with other dogs off leash.
