UPDATE:  9/29/13 – Moe is the CUTEST THING!  He’s a male Beagle, about 5 years YOUNG (a GREAT age for a dog), and 20 pounds of LOVE.  House Trained.  Good with dogs.  Good with cats.  Good on leash.  Good at kissing & cuddling too!  Moe is a happy, gentle, playful little soul who needs some extra TLC right now.

Cute, little, 20 pound beagles like Moe usually get adopted quickly.  But not Moe!  Moe, who came to our shelter as a stray in August, has Heartworm but it isn’t his fault; whoever owned him didn’t give him monthly heartworm preventative & he was bitten by the wrong mosquito.  Once a dog has Heartworm, it costs our shelter between $200.00 and $400.00 to treat it & shelter funds are limited right now.  We WILL spent the money to treat Moe but we would love for someone to adopt him (he’s so sweet) and help him through his treatments (which will require him to be gently exercised & kept calm for two months while his heart sheds pieces of the dead worm).

Moe’s recuperation would be easier on him if he was already living in his forever home & bonding with his people.  Some good ole fashioned lap time would be very therapeutic for him & his people too.  He is crate trained but he shouldn’t have to live his life in one—he has very good house manners, after all.

If you’d like to help this VERY SWEET little beagle, we’ll put your donation toward his care & remind you that it will buy you a lot of love if you choose to ADOPT Moe too.  He wears the softest coat & he’s more than ready to blanket you with it as he snuggles in & gets all better.  If you’d like to discuss adopting him & helping him throughout his recuperation period, please contact the Almost Home Pet Adoption Center directly at 434-263-7722.  Read more about Moe at

AUG 19, 2013:

Moe does not know that he is tiny little beagle and has a personality that is  the size of a Shetland pony.  He was wonderful with every other dog, cat, and human large and small at the recent Sweet Briar Adoption Event.  ;o)

AUG 5, 2013:

Moe, 5 yr, male, small (20 pound), Beagle.  Moe must be named after one of the Three Stooges as all he wants to do is make people laugh!  While he is no longer a youngster, he was definitely hamming it up for the camera as he charged right in for his close-ups :)  He is a very small Beagle and a really nice dog.  The folks who found him had him for about a week as they tried to find his owners.  Moe is reportedly house trained, good with dogs and afraid of cats.
